My Hero’s

June 30, 2008 · Leave a Comment

I wanted to give a quick word of appreciation to our counselors: Robert Major, Nancy Myers, Ben Crain, Becca Jarred, Scott Myers, Doug and Annissa Esser, Jamie and Tara Dohrman (Also Mike and Tricia Hanska, Nate and Jessica Harrison, and Dale Myers who just came up for the weekend). These counselors are the difference makers in your students lives. They are eating, praying, challenging, laughing, crying(the girls that is), correcting =), and loving your students. I am honored to get to serve along side them. Years from now the memories your students will have of this week will include one of these counselors, so please remember them when you pray. They are my hero’s. I think you will find when your students come home that they are their hero’s too.

Good morning!!! I just finished meeting with our counselors and it is neat to hear what God is doing in our students lives. Please continue to pray for our students.

Prayer focus today: Pray that our students will understand that followers of Christ are called to act in ways that are consistent with Jesus’ teaching and example.

Do you know who you are in Christ?

June 30, 2008 · 2 Comments

Breakfast began early, especially if you stayed up late talking or duct taping your roommates. Some of us froze with the air conditioners going full blast.

What a beautiful day. The sun was shining and the breezes cool.

The students spent their quiet time with Steve while the counselors went to a training time for the days family group meeting.

Today, we went back and looked at where our Christian roots came from. Since most of our students have already accepted Christ, it is our concern that they take their walk with Christ a step further. We challenged students to be cautious as to what the world says that is contrary to the doctrine they have been brought up with. Do they know what they believe and why they believe it?

The recreation time was spent in water games, which turned out to be more mud games. Don’t be surprised if the laundry doesn’t come home very muddy and smelly. Sorry moms!

After lunch, we took a nice ride to the Lake of the Ozarks where we spent the afternoon at Gary and April’s lake house. We began by having our Family Group study time, followed by swimming, and tubing behind a really awesome boat. Praise God, no one was hurt and the tubing was a challenge for everyone who dare to take the ride. It is amazing how funny it is to watch teenagers and adults be carried across the water at high speeds, spun on a dime, and either fight to stay on or fly off in all directions. And then get back on and want to do it again and again…..What silly creatures we are. We finished with a hot dog cook out and headed back for the evening praise time.

Our biggest thanks to the Gary and April for sharing all of this with us!

The evening worship provided what I call “lively music”. The band seems to have connected with the students. The inclusion of some old hymns to an updated version would get the approval of the “older” fan club. “How Great Thou Art” with some drums is actually pretty neat.

Our speaker spoke on I John chapter 1.

Here are his 3 main points.

I. Jesus was real and he walked on the Earth

II. Jesus Christ is perfect.

III. God’s mission is to forgive us.

Tonight’s challenge is to know who they really are in
Christ.

Just wondering? Do you know who you are in Christ?

Here are some pictures from yesterday!! Things are going great. Robert Major wrote a blog from day one. We will have multiple counselors and students writing, so check back often.

Prayer focus for today: Students will understand that the decision to follow Christ is not a one-time decision; they must decide to follow Him each day of their lives.

Bed springs mysteriously disappear

June 29, 2008 · Leave a Comment

Day one of Student Life camp is coming to a close. Today has been very eventful. Scott the intern has be incredibly helpful to Steve, from passing out all of the information to the parents to writing all of Steve’s devotional materials…..just kidding, I think Ruth actually did that. The bus trip down was pretty uneventful, although we almost adopted some puppies in Clinton, MO. We managed to get the girls to give them back so that we could keep on our schedule. We arrived at Windermere at approxiamately 2:30 PM, Steve and Scott checked us in, and the ever reliable Ben Crain took us into the worship building to ensure that our orientation would go smoothly. After orientation the guys kicked into servant mode and carried all of the ladies luggage to their rooms. Then after making sure that they were all taken care of, we trekked thru the mud, rocks, and increadiably rough terrain to find our cabins (the oldest structures at camp) and unload our stuff. We then went back to the worship center for further orientation. The counselors went off to receive information about our family groups, and the times that they would occur. We then all met up with the group to have dinner, ham, chicken fingers, corn, rice, salad, and various desserts. Much better than the typical camp food. After dinner we broke up into our family groups, well that is after I picked myself up off of the floor in my room…..it seems that my bed springs mysteriously disappeared….I have some very strong suspects and the culperate will be found and dealt with accordingly. The service was next. Worship was incredible, Spur 58 has led us and are truly giving God all of the glory. It is so awesome seeing so many teenagers worshiping our Savior and Lord! Our speaker Wade Morris truly has a love for Jesus Christ and it is evident in his passion to share the word of God. Our focus tonight was on Matthew 7:13 & 14. This was our theme for the day and what we will be building on throughout the week. After our evening service, Steve brought the devotion, and focused on Psalms 46:10. By the way today was Ben Crain’s birthday so we ended with ice cream at the snack bar. The start of camp has been great, and we are anticipating God doing great things this week in all of our lives. Pray for us as we continue here at Windermere!

Take care and God Bless,

Robert Major
